St Xavier's School Mehsana (Gujarat) was founded in 1992 by order of Rev. Archbishop Stanislaus Fernandes and offered classes exclusively in Gujarati (local language). It was a humble beginning with only a few classrooms and around 200 students.

The English-language courses only started in 2008 with only 7 students in the 1st grade. Now the Gujarati medium reaches up to grade 8 and the English language classes start in kindergarten and go up to grade 12 (school-leaving certificate). The total number of students today is 1788.

Former students of St Xavier's School in Mehsana have gone on to study and have become engineers, doctors, lawyers, teachers, sportspersons, etc.

Currently, the institution is not only focussing on academic education, but also on the holistic development of each individual student. The activities that take place here include dance, martial arts, singing, art, theatre, and sports. Every year, students participate in various competitions in the above activities at district and national level and win many prizes.

St Xavier's Mehsana keeps its doors open for students of all castes and creeds. Special attention is given to students who come from economically and socially deprived backgrounds.

In collaboration with 75 staff (including 61 teachers), parents and charitable organisations, the aim is to provide quality education to students, especially the poor and young people from tribal backgrounds, to enable them to grow into fully socially integrated individuals in an atmosphere of peaceful co-existence and later become instruments of social transformation themselves.

The school is not supported by the state; it is financed by donations and school fees (which, however, many families cannot afford).
